About Us

En Garde Deer Defense is a family-run business, started by Jeffrey Ardo in 2016. Jeff is a homeowner with a passion to make his yard lush with beautiful green shrubs and colorful plants, but like the rest of Northeast Ohio, deer have made this a challenge. Frustrated with his own damage, he sought out a solution and started his own deer deterrent company. Jeff received extensive training from industry experts and uses a natural deer deterrent formula, licensed in the State of Ohio that’s proven to deliver results.

Natural, Proprietary Deer Repellent

We are deer repellent specialists, and this is all we do as a company! We are an owner-operated business that is completely dedicated to customer service and satisfaction. Unlike some services, we use our own proprietary deer repellent that cannot be found in stores. Unlike some repellents, our product is extremely weather-resistant, virtually odorless, and transparent. A unique element of our company is that we produce our product on a daily basis which lends to its potency and is a key component to the success of our spraying service.

Although deer did get my hostas before service really took hold, I noticed a decrease in the number of deer in my yard overall.

Response from the owner:Those deer are such creatures of habit! Sometimes it happens that they will munch on the plants they are used to eating before they realize they don't taste good anymore, especially hostas. But after your free spray and review in June you didn't have any more damage. That is the aim! Thank you for trusting us to guard your yard from deer damage, Ann Marie. And thank you for your review!

En Garde Deer Defense helped keep the deer and rabbits from consuming our perennial garden!

Response from the owner:Thank you for spreading the word, Laura! Our one job is to deter deer from eating landscaping. If our product works for rabbits it is a happy coincidence. Sometimes if the deer pressure is heavy we can add a hot chili seed essential oil to our spray. It does to the deer's mouth like it does to us if we eat a hot pepper. And it turns out rabbits sometimes don't like that either. But it's not a given, so we can't guarantee it. You are lucky that your rabbits were deterred along with the deer!

Excellent product and service. My backyard has a lot of woods and deer come out every year to decimate my garden. This year I am so much happier. Everything is blooming! Thank you En Garde!

Response from the owner:You are very welcome, Ms. Voss! We are happy to be able to help you enjoy your blooming landscaping. Those deer may still come out of the woods to nibble here and there just to find out if your plants still taste and smell bad, but they won't be doing any decimating. Thank you for trusting us to guard your yard from deer damage!

This is the best summer we have had with our flowers We are glad our friend told us about this

Response from the owner:Hi Mr. Strobl! We're so glad Ruth told you about us, as well. Just like Ruth - who received 50% off of a spray for her referral of you - you can get that same discount if you refer a friend who becomes a customer. And there is no limit to how many times you can get the discount! We love to know that you were able to really enjoy your flowers this summer. We hope to see you next season!

I have a large number of floral gardens that were being destroyed by the deer. I was not certain anything would be effective but I tried the free trial from En Garde Deer Defense and it worked miracles. I have had the service now for 2 years and no deer damage despite seeing them walk right up to the flower beds. This has saved me a lot of money in lost plants and shrubs. I highly recommend the service.

Response from the owner:Hi Susan! Thank you for trusting us to guard your yard from deer damage for the past two years. Your experience with our service is our aim. Your recommendation of our service is our encouragement. We will continue to improve and expand to make sure you keep our service for another two years and another after that! Thank you for talking the time to share!

After having deer decimate my landscaping last summer, I contacted En Garde Deer Defense. The results have been truly amazing!! From when they started last July, and throughout this year, I have had "0" destruction from the herds that roam my neighborhood (spotted 14 deer in my neighbor's yard last week!). I am grateful to Jeff and his team for helping me maintain my garden and my investment!! I also appreciate receiving the email notification when my service is completed! En Garde is a MUST for anyone losing plants to the deer!

Response from the owner:What a great review! Thank you so much, Amy! You hit the nail on the head. We help you to protect your investment into your landscaping - both the time and the money you've spent - even if there are a few nibbles here and there from deer checking back. We appreciate you spreading the word. Thank you for trusting us to guard your yard from deer damage!

Their spray keep the deer away 👍 But their tech when he sprayed plants around our house he also sprayed our house not caused by the wind. It stained our house every where he sprayed. Last time the tech was out he told me he was coming out to power wash my house. Nothing has happen yet it’s been several weeks. This makes me not wanting En Garde service.

Response from the owner:We are happy to know that our deer deterrent spraying service kept the deer from eating your landscaping. That is our main objective. It is a bit of an occupational hazard that occasionally our fine mist spray does get on houses, especially if there is landscaping up close to the house. Your spray tech has been keeping an eye on it and he was right to tell you that we would be out to clean your house. You are in the queue. However, we can only schedule house cleanings after we've switched to our off season routes where our spray rotation is once every four weeks as opposed to once every three in the busy season. We just this past week switched, so someone will be out to clean your house as soon as we get the house cleaning routes organized. We appreciate your patience. You are always welcome to call the office to let us know if you have a comment or concern. It is typically a quicker way to come to a resolution.

Finally got a service that actually worked to keep the deer away piece of mine for my flowers and yard. Great company to work with.

I would highly recommend En Garde Defense . Since we have been using them for the first time my front flowers have bloomed and never looked healthier. We use to see 5 - 10 deer around even sleeping on our front lawn, now we may see 1-2 and they bypass our yard ! We are very happy with our yard now. Thanks En Guarde.

Response from the owner:Hi Carmen! We sure do appreciate all the stars and are so glad to know that you are happy with our service. Thank you!

We are very happy with the results we’ve had with the En Garde system. So nice to see our hostas thriving this year instead of being the salad bar for the deer that they were in the past. So glad I called them. An extra plus, the fellows who’ve come are so very nice and willing to answer questions! Rinse, in the office is a gem!

Response from the owner:We are so glad you called, as well, Mrs. Louisin! And we totally agree with you - our spray techs are the best! Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with our service and product.

EnGuard members were always polite and very prompt. They communicated well so I knew when they were coming. My gardens have grown better this year because of their spray schedule. Bravo!

Immediate signs that is effective. Plants are flourishing!

Response from the owner:We love to hear that your plants are flourishing! Thank you for the review, Michael. Just a bit of a heads up - it is possible that you may see a nibble here and there as the deer who are used to eating your plants come back to see if they still taste and smell bad. But the spray application should break that habit pretty quickly. Thank you for trusting us to guard your yard from deer damage.

First, this product works! I had one blossom eaten at the very beginning of spring, but after that none were touched. I had tried everything and nothing had worked before En Garde! Second, the customer service is great -- responsive, attentive, helpful, cheerful. Could not be better!

Response from the owner:Thank you for your kind review, Dynda! Sometimes those deer will nibble a blossom here or there just to see if it still tastes and smells bad. It sounds like they definitely got the message in your yard. That's what we like to hear!

I’ve used En Garde for years to protect my yard from deer, and the results speak for themselves. While the deer devour everyone else’s flowers, especially hydrangeas, my yard remains untouched — year after year. Their treatments really work! Our technician, Sammy, is always polite, professional, and does an outstanding job. Thanks to En Garde and Sammy, my hydrangeas look amazing and I never have to worry about deer damage. Highly recommended!

Response from the owner:Hi Mr. Lauria! We will be sure to tell Sammy that you said so. We couldn't agree more! Thank you for this review and for being a loyal customer. If you pass word about your secret garden weapon on to your neighbors whose flowers are being devoured and they become a customer you will get 50% off of a spray - one for each person you recommend. Be sure to tell them to drop your name.

After 15 years of doing home application, this was my first time using an outside company to spray, and had outstanding results. 0ur yard has hostas, daylillies, taxus, and flowering plants. Saw only a few deer the entire growing season, with zero damage to our yard.

Response from the owner:Hi Terry, We are happy to take over the work of spraying so you can sit back and enjoy your landscaping. You may continue to see some deer as they come back every now and again to nibble. But once they do they'll realize your plants still taste and smell bad and they'll be on their way. Thank you for giving our service a try and and for spreading the word!

En Garde Deer Defense truly makes a difference. What used to be a “salad buffet” for deer in my front flower bed has completely changed—now I see them running away. It’s been an absolute godsend.

Response from the owner:Hi Mr. Meyers, Thank you for taking the time to write us a review and spread the word. We're so glad to hear that the salad buffet has been closed! Enjoy that front garden!
